Color can vary from a light gray-brown to creamy white in the sapwood to a deep brown heartwood. Antique reclaimed ash can be wormy and has a deeper yellow-gold undertone than new ash. Grain is long and can be sometimes confused with oak grain. A very hard wood, Ash is excellent for virtually any application. It is used extensively for tool handles and baseball bats today are made almost exclusively from it.
